One of the best gamepads from the current generation of consoles is Sony's PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 controller. The fantastic news: Owners of a DS4 controller may utilize it to get virtually all gamepad-ready Windows games. The bad: Contrary to Microsoft's Xbox One gamepads, preparing the PS4 controller on a PC requires a bit more effort, at least when it comes to wireless usage. But don't worry, we will demonstrate how you can play your favorite games using the PlayStation controller. Incidentally, this also works with both the older DualShock 4 control and the revised version released in 2016 with the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Probably the simplest choice to utilize the DualShock 4 controller on the PC is that the use of a traditional USB cable. Not only can the DualShock 4 controller be charged via the micro USB port, but it may also be joined to the PC like any other USB device. Windows 10 recognizes the gamepad within a few seconds and you are able to use it. Especially in newer games or in the Big-Picture port of Steam, now you can use the PS4 controller immediately. But in many cases, you need an extra setup with a tool such as DS4Windows - more about that below.

Whether through cable or Bluetooth: You will discover that the use of the PS4 controller on the PC in many games is not possible or just faulty. The reason: Microsoft employs the Xinput port on Windows to connect game controllers. Most matches, therefore, call for a Xinput-compatible Gamecotnroller, like the Xbox One or Xbox 360 gamepads. Sony officially does not support Xinput, which explains why the PS4 controller is not recognized by games like FIFA 19. That doesn't make a difference! Several programs jump into the breach. Probably the best is the free program DS4Windows, The open source tool trickles Windows into believing that the connected PS4 controller is an Xbox gamepad. This works with both the wired and the Bluetooth variant. In practice, this usually means that you can control virtually all controller-compatible Windows games using the DualShock 4 controller.
